At NORTHERN we don’t just design buildings. From the objects and materials that we select for each project, to the relationships we manage; each element is just as critical to delivering the vision on site.

We provide a holistic approach to each commission through the following services:

Architecture

We design and detail a varied range of projects, from small extensions to commercial buildings. Our primary service covers all work stages of a construction project, from concept design, planning, producing technical drawings, through to on-site assistance during construction.

Interior Design

Interior and architectural design go hand in hand; each one informs the other. The interiors we create are measured, respond to the client’s requirements, and bring to life the vision and feeling of a space.

NORTHERN is able to provide a full furniture, fitting and equipment (FF&E) design service for each scheme, which includes design of bespoke furniture, as well as procurement of materials and objects to complete the space.

Project Management

NORTHERN acts as client liaison throughout each project, big or small. We help you to select contractors, draw up and, crucially, administer the building contract. Through this process, we aim to ensure that work is delivered on time, within budget, and importantly following your chosen design.

To ensure quality and timely delivery, we can recommend a select number of trusted consultants and contractors that we have previous experience working with.

OUR PROCESS

  • We begin with an initial meeting to understand your requirements, as our client, including a walk-round of the site or property. This will allow us to discuss your initial ideas in person within the space that you wish to transform.

    These ideas and discussions will then be formalised into a working briefing document, which will define our scope and key priorities for the project.

  • Once everyone is happy with the brief and we have understood your vision for the scheme in sufficient detail, the team at NORTHERN will produce several unique concepts. These initial design concepts will then be presented to you in drawn format for feedback and discussion.

  • Once you have selected your preferred concept design, we will develop the initial proposal into a comprehensive package of information suitable for submission to the local authority for planning permission, if required. During the planning process, we will manage the coordination with local authority planners and any other design team consultants for you.

  • At this stage, we will produce a detailed package of information, which is required for building regulation approval. We will manage liaisons with any other consultants who may be needed, to ensure that the design is compliant with current regulations. The completed technical package will be used within a Tender process, allowing contractors to accurately price the project.

  • During the construction phase, we administer the construction contract and act as a liaison between you, our client, and the contractor, to realise and deliver the design. We always ensure compliance with the produced set of information, as well as with Building Regulations.

  • From completion of construction, through to you enjoying your new space for the first time, we will remain on hand to support you with any queries. We strive for every project to be a resounding success.
