Northern Architects was appointed to sensitively restore and reconfigure this Victorian semi-detached home on one of Chorlton-cum-Hardy’s most desirable streets. Previously converted into a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO), the property was in poor condition and in need of significant renovation.
The design focused on reinstating the house as a contemporary family home, while respecting its original character. A full-width rear extension allowed for the creation of a bright, open-plan kitchen and family space connected to the garden. Internal reconfiguration introduced a new utility room and WC, while a formal front living room was retained and enhanced with reinstated period features.
The basement was transformed into a self-contained office with a dedicated external entrance, supporting flexible home-working. Across the upper floors, the layout was rationalised to create five bedrooms and bathrooms on each level. This project showcases Northern Architects’ expertise in modernising heritage homes for family living in Greater Manchester.
